Spruce's Sacramento Street frontage: the brown awning with the restaurant's name, sidewalk bistro tables, and the dining room reflected in the window

Under the
Brown Awning

Spruce announces itself quietly — a low brown awning against yellow brick, a handful of bistro chairs on the sidewalk, and a window that shows you the dining room and the street at the same time. Inside that reflection: white linen, shaded lamps, and the leather chairs the room is known for.

3640 Sacramento Street · Presidio Heights

The Neighborhood's
Great Room

Spruce occupies a converted 1930s auto showroom on Sacramento Street, and it still feels like a room built for arrival — mohair walls, towering floral arrangements, leather chairs, and an art collection worth slowing down for. It has been Presidio Heights' special-occasion restaurant since it opened, and it wears the role easily.

Chef Mark Sullivan's cooking is Californian in the truest sense: driven by what's best that week, plated with restraint, and sourced in large part from the restaurant group's own farm. The dining room runs on seasonal prix-fixe menus at dinner, with lighter à la carte-style service at lunch and weekend brunch.

The wine program is the other reason people make the trip — one of the most ambitious lists in the country, with over 3,500 selections, a vast spirits library, and a bar team that takes classic cocktails seriously. The adjoining café is the low-key counterpart: coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and a glass of wine, all day, no reservation.

Local Guidance

01

Book Ahead for Dinner

Weekend dinner reservations go well in advance, particularly around holidays. Weeknights are far easier, and the bar takes walk-ins.

02

Dress the Part

There's no enforced dress code, but this is the neighborhood's grand room — most guests turn up smart-casual or better at dinner.

03

Note Dietary Needs When Booking

Because dinner is prix fixe, the kitchen wants advance notice for vegetarian, vegan, or allergy menus — and handles them well when given it.

04

Parking & Timing

Sacramento Street parking tightens after 6pm. Valet and nearby garages exist, but a rideshare on a Friday night saves fifteen minutes of circling.
